Brianna Fisher, a photographer, needed a new website that she could manage herself. As an artist, she needed the website to capture her identity and style.
Because it was a website for photography, she also needed a website that could handle a lot of media while remaining fast and performant, even on mobile devices.
An extensive design process allowed Aardonyx to create a design/theme that presented Brianna exactly as she wanted to be presented.
Because the design was created specifically for her, without pre-existing templates, it makes her stand out from other photographers.
Development with the CMS (Contentful) allows her control in creating many different layouts. We created a widget-like building block design, so Brianna can reuse a number of pre-designed blocks in whatever order she chooses, to display whatever photos and copy she likes.
This allows her flexibility to create pages and layouts that meet her needs, but ensures that she stays within the constraints of the established design and UX rules.
The technology chosen (Gatsby, with Contentful) offers many positives for uploading and displaying large media files.
Gatsby automatically uses correct image sizes and formats for the web, so Brianna does not have to worry about resizing her images before upload. The website will remain performant despite being image-heavy.
In addition, the images are pre-loaded in the layout, and slowly come into focus. This means that the copy doesn't move around as the images load.
